Be Careful with Fertilizer this Summer
Many people have asked about fertilizing some more this summer. Be careful. It is tempting to apply more considering we are having some beautiful weather right now….mid 80s during the day, low 70s at night. Lawns are looking very good right now. There has been some brown patch disease but since subsided due to cooler temps.
Plus, rains have washed the soil of remaining fertilizer and brought out more weeds. Spot spray the weeds. We have many different choices in stock for your particular problem.
You know it will eventually get hot for an extended period of time. If you fertilize a little too much, you could bring out more diseases and stress on the grass. Fertilize only at half rates or use organic fertilizers only.
Plan to fertilize more heavily come Fall. For now, just keep it mowed regularly, mow high, and avoid overwatering in the evenings. We have a long way to go before cooler temps arrive in mid-late Sept.
Start thinking about a complete soil test to get ready for any fall renovations you might have in mind. Good Luck.
