A Blend of Turf Type
Tall Fescues
Green Alliance is a special blend of turf-type fescues. Cultivars have been chosen based on field trial results in the tri-state area. Green Alliance is also available with Ryegrass or Bluegrass.
Research has shown that because of the vast root systems of the tall fescues, Green Alliance will tolerate droughts. A Green Alliance lawn will tolerate pH from 5.0 to 8.3, and has a yearly fertility requirement of 4-6 lbs. of Nitrogen per 1000 sq. ft. (A 3-1-2 ratio is recommended.)
Lawn texture of blade width can be altered through seeding applications. The higher the seeding rate (10-15 lbs per 1000 sq. ft.), the narrower the leaf blade, due to competition. The lower the rate (5-10 lbs. per sq. ft.), the coarser the blade enabling Green Alliance to withstand more abuse or traffic.
Because the tall fescues are cool season grasses, they remain green year-round. Fertilization in the summer is not recommended, however, and shaded areas should be watered less often. Tall fescues have shown excellent tolerance to shade.
The recommended mowing height is 11/2" to 21/2"and thee is a direct correlation between root growth and top growth. The higher the Green Alliance is mowed, the deeper the roots and the more water and nutrients available to the plant. Mow within 3 weeks after planting.
Thatching Green Alliance is not recommended, as this grass doesn¹t creep. A bi-yearly aerification program is helpful to aid in water penetration.
Green Alliance may be used on athletic fields, school yards, home lawns, commercial projects, roadside erosion control, and golf course rough areas.
1. Prepare seed bed by removing debris and large rocks, then tiling to 4-6
inches depth.
2. Smooth soil by raking or dragging.
3. Spread recommended fertilizer for your particular soil condition.
4. Sow seed evenly at recommended rate of 8-12 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft.
5. Incorporate seed fertilizer into soil at 1/4 to 1/2 inch with very light
raking.
6. Roll surface with medium weight roller to firm soil around seed.
7. Keep surface moist with frequent light waterings. Seed will not germinate
in dry soil.
1. Remove as much loose grass and weeds as possible.
2. Loosen soil with renovator rake as necessary to expose soil.
3. Apply fertilizer.
4. Sow seed evenly, taking extra care on bare spots.
5. Firm the soil around seed with roller or packer.
6. Keep soil moist until seed has germinated.
Water longer and less frequently one lawn is established (approximately 6 months).
