October Can Prove To Be A Good Month for Seeding

With the dry weather we have faced, many have not been able to overseed yet.  It is so dry, it is not worth aerating or dethatching mainly because it won’t cultivate the soil and it’s hard on the equipment.  Don’t panic, October has proven a good month for seeding , and you are better off seeding in October than waiting until spring.  Immediately following the next rainfall, cultivate and seed.  Consider bumping the seed rate up due to drier conditions and for mid to late October seedings.  Strawing bare soil after seeding is highly recommended.

Seed rate for overseed fescue:  8 lbs per 1,000 sq ft

Seed rate for bare soil:  12 lbs per 1,000 sq ft
